When it comes to air pollution, all of us are likely to be affected by it. Asthma, abnormal coughs, and allergies are some of the direct results of air pollution. Reports have found that air pollution affects everyone regardless of age and gender. However, a recent study finds that air pollution is toxic, particularly for children. New Direction For Children and Adolescents finds out the potential side effects of air pollution. Particularly, the research focuses on the impacts of air pollution on children.
To begin with, the study makes two groups of children, with 15 children in each group. The first group is kept in an environment where the air is clean with no pollutants. On the other hand, the other group of children is kept in an environment where the air is polluted. The researchers keep the two groups of children in their respective environments for 24 days. Based on the analysis, it turns out that air pollution has long-lasting effects on the health of children.
According to the findings of the study, it turns out that there are two critical impacts of air pollution on the health of children. These include:
- Abnormal heartbeat rate.
- Uncommon and critical inflammation.
Nevertheless, it is essential to note here that the children who were part f this study were between 6 and 13 years old. It is alarming that kids between six to ten are more vulnerable to air pollution. The study recommends that these kids have no proper immune system. Since their immunity is fragile, they are very likely to be vulnerable to other diseases. For instance, if an abnormal heartbeat rate is found in a kid who is seven years old, is very likely to develop heart disease moving forward. Because of the weak immunity system, this kid can not resist other diseases, and chronic diseases like heart attack and asthma can take place.
But this does not mean that kids – who are above 10 – and are exposed to polluted air will not encounter these chronic diseases. They will definitely develop the early signs of inhaling bad air.
Furthermore, the study recommends a few precautions you should take as a parent. No matter how tiny a step is, parents should come forward and take responsibility for looking after the health of their kids. According to the study’s recommendation, all parents must do whatever it takes to protect their children from being exposed to air pollution.
For beginners, it would mean not allowing their kids to step outside the house when it is winding outside. Especially in the autumn season, when the wind blows, it whisks away pollutants with it. This is where parents should be cautious and not allow their kids to be exposed to the gusty wind of autumn.
If the situation gets critical, we recommend you take your child to the doctor and go through the required treatment.
