For some, sneezing can be commonplace and a healthy sign. When you feel the tickle in your nose and burst it out in the shape of a natural sneeze, your nasal irritants clear up. You can tell how smooth and satisfying this natural burst is. Consequently, you feel fresh and proactive.
According to an Illinois-based doctor and physician, Matthew Perkey, sneezing is a natural body reaction to the allergies, irritants, and microscopic viruses that get birth in your body. Matthew argues that as long as the sneeze is normal “and once or twice a day,” it is healthy for the overall maintenance of the body. Furthermore, Matthew argues, “As your nasal cavity feels a foreign substance – that irritates your overall body – the nasal cavity feels the need of eliminating it. And a natural and soothing burst out in the form of sneezing is the apparent outcome.”
Nonetheless, there are others who get irritated by back-to-back sneezing. They find themselves in a position where they sneeze in a row. Which is, of course, not healthy. This begs the billion dollars question:
What are the causes of abnormal and “in a row” sneezing?
Well, as mentioned earlier, sneezing is a natural response mechanism of the body. It bursts out the foreign substances or irritants that enter the nose. On the flip side, back to back and abnormal sneezing have different causes. Meaning this form of sneezing is not a responsive one. Instead, it is an indication that something is wrong either with nasal and oral cavities or somewhere with the body organs. Below are five apparent causes of sneezing. Please keep in mind that these causes are not the ones that cause a healthy sneeze. Let’s dive deep into the causes of an abnormal sneeze:
-
Season Shiftings
“One of the most apparent causes of abnormal sneezing is the shifting and change of seasons,” says Matthew Perkey, who is a nose and throat specialist in an Illinois-based health clinic. By season shifting, he means as we experience the shift of seasons – from summer to winter, for example – our body reacts to this shift in an abnormal way. Consequently, abnormal sneezing occurs.
As a result, this abnormal sneezing takes the shape of either flu or pneumonia. Both of these are unhealthy for the overall maintenance of the body. To avoid this kind of abnormal sneeze, Matthew suggests the following:
- Short and warm baths.
- Avoiding frequent exposure to sunlight.
- Balanced diet.
2. Entrance of Seasoning Irritants into the Nasal Cavity
Another apparent cause of abnormal sneezing is the seasoning irritants that enter into the nasal cavity. These irritants can be dust, smoke, or any other air pollution. Once these irritants enter the body, they create allergies. Consequently, the nasal cavity malfunctions and ends up sneezing in a row.
To avoid seasoning irritants from entering into the nasal cavity, Matthew recommends using face masks, wearing glasses, and covering up mouth and nose while outing.
3. Involuntary Reactions
A rare cause of abnormal sneezing is an involuntary reaction of the body. For example, some people sneeze in a row as they eat the same meal over and over again. Likewise, some face abnormal sneezing after having intercourse.
4. Direct Exposure to Sunlight
Direct exposure to sunlight is also another rare cause of abnormal sneezing. Doctors argue that if you get exposed to sunlight, especially after a long time, your body abnormally reacts to it. And one of the common results is sneezing.
