Why Are Some Fathers Not Too Crazy About Spending Time With Their Kids?

Gwenda Lim Apr 28, 2023

It takes lots of love and care to be a father, but sometimes the pressure is too much, and the expectations are too high—that’s when a man cracks and feels that it’s not possible to be a good father. Here are five reasons why some dads are not crazy about spending time with their kids!

Parenting Is Challenging

The moment young people find out that they are going to be parents, they only think about the pros and forget to consider the cons.

They cannot wait to hold their unborn child in their arms and observe them proudly, nurturing them to become happy human beings. But unfortunately, there is no manual about temper tantrums, countless visits to the pediatrician, spilled formula, and never-ending sleepless nights!

As parents, their lives become an experience of foreseeing colic, food allergies, and diaper changes. The anxiety is super new and unexplored, and it may be hard to take it all in. But no matter how tough things can get, as the paternal figure to the children, they are more than capable of offering all the care their family needs.

Bonding With the Baby ASAP

Many fathers think that every obligation to the baby is the responsibility of the mother. The bond between a father and his child has to start when the little one is in the womb. Dads should attend every ultra-sound scan, and be present when the baby first moves in the mother’s tummy.

All this builds an emotional connection between the father and the unborn child. The bond only strengthens with time, and hence it is vital for both parents to take part when the kid hits every milestone in his/her life.

Ego Gets the Better of You

When a parent feels a sudden surge of love, and the kid wants to have fun, they enjoy the playtime, and when the child is not in the mood, the father feels rejected. The frustration that comes over originates from a lot of hurt.

We need to remember that as parents and, most importantly, as responsible adults, our child’s rebuff and dismissal is not personal at all. Why not just make another play date and stick to it and earn their trust back?

Oftentimes, we are oblivious to the fact that kids are a blessing, the biggest one ever. Fathers are already accountable to the family as the breadwinners and providers in most households.

The strains at work, in addition to the marital quandary, challenge a person to be a good role model and a dad. But, one also needs to understand that the more challenging and competent parenting is, the more joy it will bring to them, now and later on, when they look back as well.

Some Children Are More Difficult Than Others

A father might be an athletic freak, but it’s possible that their child would adore the Arts and music. There are instances when especially dads wonder what they have in common with their baby or why is he/she so different from them or their own siblings.

However, that does not mean they are any less competent. Perhaps, they showcase a side of their parents that was never ever discovered!

The parents need to look at the world through their eyes and remember that children feel vibes; they can even tell whether their mom or dad is genuinely interested in what they do. Sitting with them and trying to understand why they enjoy their own things would help strengthen the relationship.

A father is a child’s first inspiration and super-hero, even though they don’t express it. Being a parent is a blessing that some people are deprived of. Make the most of it while you still can!
